Supporting My Favorite Charities and Non-Profits

by Tracey Moore

For every commission I earn, I give back a portion to charities and non-profit organizations that I love -- because supporting the New Orleans community and others who need our help is one of my personal core values.

While it’s important to think of others during the holiday season, I try to make a habit of donating all year long – because the need is always there.

If you're looking to give this holiday season and find any of these organizations interesting, please consider making a year-end donation. Thank you for your generosity of spirit!

Here are the organizations I supported in 2023:

Raintree Children & Family Services’ mission is to provide needed services to at-risk children and youth, encouraging hope and creating opportunities for growth and independent lives.

Second Harvest Food Bank leads the fight against hunger in South Louisiana by providing food access, advocacy, education, and disaster response.

The Junior League of New Orleans is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Mr. Legs is an annual charity event benefiting Bridge House. Truly a one-of-a-kind fundraiser, Mr. Legs is a beauty pageant not to be missed! Male contestants strut their stuff on stage showing a little leg for charity. Whoever raises the most money for Bridge House / Grace House takes home the coveted title of Mr. Legs.

The ACLU dares to create a more perfect union — beyond one person, party, or side. Our mission is to realize this promise of the United States Constitution for all and expand the reach of its guarantees.

Maui Wildfire Relief via The Cajun Navy, a group of volunteers who work tirelessly to provide immediate rescue and relief during natural disasters. Rescue and relief are their way of sharing the South Louisiana cultural tradition of neighbors helping neighbors.

The Southern Most HIV/AIDS Ride (aka SMART Ride) started in 2003 and since then, has raised over $14.95 million to help those infected, affected, or at risk for HIV and AIDS in Florida. SMART Ride is now the 2nd largest AIDS bicycle ride in the country.

Fordham University WFUV 90.7 FM is a nationally acclaimed hub of music discovery, news, and sports journalism. It’s also a multimedia training ground for Fordham students who go on to careers in broadcast journalism, music production, and more.

Forum for Equality is Louisiana’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) human rights organization dedicated to the establishment of a society free from discrimination and to the support of good government.

WYES/PBS has been committed to preserving the stories of the Greater New Orleans region and the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1957, providing free educational television to every home in their viewing area, inspiring a lifetime of learning.

Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where every member of the LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear, and with equality under the law.

Lambda Legal is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving cancer research and provides free information and counseling to patients navigating their cancer journey.

To honor the memory of my late friends Robert Grace and Jeanne Bernos, I recently competed in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) New Orleans Visionary of the Year campaign. And I’m incredibly humbled to have received the award for top fundraiser by raising over $70,000 in just 10 weeks.
