Making the Most of Summer in New Orleans

Summer in New Orleans Tracey Moore Realtor

Summer in New Orleans has its own rhythm—the days are a little slower, and it's the perfect time to rediscover your favorite local spots or explore a few new ones. Whether you're looking for a quick day trip, a way to cool off, or just an excuse to enjoy the city a little differently, here are a few ideas for making the most of summer in and around New Orleans.

Take a Day Trip.

One of the most exciting new additions in New Orleans is the return of passenger rail service to the Gulf Coast. Hop on the train and spend the day exploring Bay St. Louis, relaxing at the beach, browsing local shops, or enjoying lunch.

Try a New Restaurant.

Summer is a great time to try a new restaurant (and take advantage of the A/C indoors)! From August 1–31, participating New Orleans restaurants are offering specially curated prix-fixe menus at great prices during COOLinary New Orleans. See a list of restaurants here.

Explore City Park.

City Park is a treasure. From the New Orleans Museum of Art to boating and bike rentals, there’s so much to do while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Cool Off with a Snoball.

Sometimes a frozen treat is the only thing that beats the heat. From Plum Street and Hansen's to Chance in Hell and the natural flavors at Imperial Woodpecker, there are plenty of delicious ways to cool off all summer long. See a full list here.

Be a Tourist in Your Own City.

One of the best ways to appreciate New Orleans is to experience it like a visitor. Check out the newly expanded Goldring Woldenberg Riverfront Park, hop on the St. Charles streetcar, or revisit a favorite museum. And when the summer heat becomes too much, treat yourself to a pool day at Garden District Hotel, The Blackbird, or The Chloe—they all offer day passes and are an awesome way to cool off!

One of the things I love most about this city is that there's always something new to enjoy, even in the places we visit all the time. I hope these ideas inspire you to try something new.
